Increasingly, professional property managers are concerned about building security, site safety, indoor air quality, improved carpet cleanliness and higher community standards. State of the art, electric truck-mount systems address these concerns in an effective and professional fashion. An electric truck-mount system differs from a traditional truck-mount or a standard portable unit in a number of significant ways. Following are some details about the main differences:

CLEANING QUALITY

Most portable carpet cleaning machines have insufficient heat, vacuum and water pressure to do a good job and require continuous chemical mixing (by hand) by the technician. If your building is very large, traditional truck-mount systems are also unable to get the vacuum & heat required because of the distances the equipment must cover (e.g. 300 meters or more). This can create extended drying times and leave chemical residues in the carpet due to inferior extraction, which can contribute to unhealthy indoor air quality. An electric truck-mount uses a propane flash furnace, a high-pressure pump, an accurate feed metering system and industrial water extraction recovery systems all of which meet or exceed traditional truck-mount system capabilities by a significant margin.

BUILDING SECURITY & SITE SAFETY

In order to bring in the large hoses, traditional truck-mounts require entrance doors to be left open during the service. As a result, you must choose to either pay additional costs to “watch the doors”, leave your building unlocked or “chain” the doors closed. Chaining the doors is a dangerous action with Fire Departments fining building owners who allow this practice even if there are several other exit doors in the vicinity. Leaving the doors unlocked and unsupervised in the evening leaves the site unsecured as well as unsafe for the building occupants and the carpet cleaning technicians. An electric truck-mount needs only a 1” opening into the building (i.e. mail slot, under a utility or garbage room door, thru any open window) and does not require that the outside building security envelope be compromised.

WATER POLLUTION

It is against the law to dump carpet cleaning recovery water down the storm drains. It is increasingly more difficult to find sanitation dumps that are open late into the evening. Some service providers have been discovered dumping wastewater onto the street and into the storm sewers. By not specifying and monitoring where the wastewater is to be dumped, building owners, as well as the contractor, are liable to be fined. An electric truck-mount safely dumps recovered wastewater into an approved location allowing the city sanitation system to effectively process the wastewater.

AIR QUALITY

Traditional truck-mounts burn gas, diesel or kerosene in order to power the system and heat the water. If they must run in the underground parkade at a high RPM, the amount of exhaust created is substantial and can significantly impact the air quality in the surrounding area. Using propane and electricity, the electric truck-mount is the clean operating choice for carpet cleaning platforms.

NOISE BYLAWS

Local bylaws prohibit running very loud commercial truck-mount units late into the evening. Bylaw enforcement has stopped these sites from operating and has ticketed the offenders. Electric truck-mount units are virtually noise free and can be run in commercial or residential areas at any time.

COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITY

Companies are no longer able to just pay lip service to community responsibility. There are tangible, direct advantages which accrue to a company that shows they are operating their facilities in a non-polluting, secure, safe and quiet fashion.
